Lot of graduates are always confused in terms of joining an organisation. They have lot of questions in mind. Should I join StartUp or MNC ?

As per my knowledge and understanding I am sharing my opinion what I feel about it. I have worked in MNCs for 5 years & now I am working in a StartUp. It’s my opinion and it may vary from person to person.

But It depend on an individual. If you’re ready to hustle startups are for you. If you want to play it safe MNCs are for you. But once you’re in your 30’s look for a MNC. As mncs are good when it comes to job security, unless and until pandemic like COVID-19 comes.

Growth

MNC’s :

When you talk about MNCs they’re well established, Structured, Multiple hierarchy & Job security. You will be a star in a billion of galaxies. Your personal growth will be slow. Most of the MNC’s use obsolete technologies which will be of no use in outside market. MNC’s are process oriented. You can’t take your own calls, you’ve to follow up for each and everything. You will never ever have a complete idea about what things are going on in other teams. Your opinion or Idea hardly matters, as each and every single decision comes through upper management.

When you join MNCs as a fresher, lot of you will work in support projects. Like making phone calls, Making spreadsheets, forwarding emails and basic L1, L2 operation work.

StartUPs :

In startups you will learn about passion. You will learn about how to follow your dreams. Most of the start up work on cutting edge technologies. You growth will be quick. You will be part of lot of decisions and projects. Startups are more for people who are willing to take risk. Who are ready to Hustle for their dreams. Here, you will get a chance to think out of the box, think innovative, share your ideas because your opinion matters here and make a name for yourself. You have to be multi dimensional as you will be involved in lot of things.

Conclusion : In the growth part MNC falls far behind a start up. Forget growth , you will end up ruining whatever good skills you have at an MNC.

Management

MNCs :

Management in MNCs totally sucks. They are the boss who need slaves to follow their order, to do the things they want. Here apart from your technical skills you need lot of buttering skills to climb up the hierarchy. If you’re not good at anything other than technology MNCs aren’t for you.

Here your skills doesn’t matter all they want is to get the work done. No matter how smart or sharp you are. You will end working under someone who hardly understand things.

StartUps :

In Startups there is no management, they have flat hierarchy. Here work matters. Unless and until you bring something to the table you aren’t valued. Bring ideas to make yourself count. In startups nobody will give you orders, whatever you do is valued, not what you tell. If you’re really good at anything you can shine. You don’t have to please someone. It’s very simple Just get the work done. Nobody cares about process or any bullshit, all that matter in startup is work.

Life

MNCs :

Few MNCs will have dress codes, formal and nowadays lot are following startups culture in that so no need to worry much in this part. But you need to log 9hours daily even if you don’t have any work. Work pressure will be less but external pressure will be more to show off what you do. In terms of enjoyment you will be having big cafetria’s and some snooker tables or foosball.

In terms of money, MNC pays very less as compared to market standards, no perks no benefits and mostly you will be having outdated machines to work with.

Startups :

Lot of startups provide free stuff like food, games and recreational activities. Work pressure will be more, but you will learn and earn. Not much activities but you can enjoy your life in doing what you want.

In terms of money, it depends what you bring to table. If you’re really good your pay will be awesome and your growth will be 3 to 4 times faster as compare to MNCs.

Only good thing about working in an MNC is every guy’s dream — an onsite opportunity — again which is something that you will only get if you are good at licking boots.

If you’re a techie ,and you’re interested in coding never ever go to an MNC.

If you like the blog do share it with your friends & Juniors :) This is my opinion. If you want to share your thoughts on same write @erpavanpathak7@gmail.com.
